About Us

A child contact centre is a safe, friendly and neutral place where children of separated families can spend time with one or both parents and sometimes other family members. They are child-centred environments that provide toys, games and facilities that reflect the diverse needs of children affected by family breakdown.

What is it like at a child contact centre?

The children are the most important people at the centre.  We aim to create a warm and comfortable atmosphere where you and your children can relax.  We have a wide range of toys and games for all ages and snacks are available at every session.  The building is fully accessible with free parking available on site.  The centre is run by a coordinator and a team of volunteers, overseen by a Board of Directors.

How can we arrange to come?

You can be referred to our centre free of charge through a social worker, solicitor or the courts. The coordinator will then arrange for you to visit the centre before contact sessions begin.

Do I have to meet my ex-partner when I go to the centre?

Not if you don't want to.  The non-resident parent is asked to arrive 15 minutes early, thereby allowing resident parents to simply drop children off.  The Village Coffee Shop, adjacent to the building, provides complimentary drinks and refreshments for parents who wish to wait close by.  Alternatively the centre is within walking distance of Foreside Shopping Centre and Newtownbreda Tesco Extra.

Will my family circumstances be kept confidential?

Information will be shared with trusted volunteers on a 'need to know' basis only,  The centre does not make any verbal or written reports about visits, apart from dates and times of attendance.  This can be requested by whoever referred you.  The only exception to this is if we believe a child, volunteer or centre user is at risk of harm.

Is there anything I need to do?

Separation can cause hard feelings, but try to remember your child is hurting too.  Children need to spend time with both parents so we ask you to make this a happy time for them by putting their needs first,  We ask all our parents to abide by a few simple guidelines which ensure the safe running of the centre:

When first visiting the centre, all parents will be asked to sign and agree to a set of rules which will help ensure your experience and that of your child’s is a safe and positive one.
